Dear Skin Bleachers: You Don’t Look Glamorous, You Look Like a Corpse.

Thank you for writing this. I love telling my story to young black aspiring models in hopes to inspire them to love their melanated skin in a world that doesn’t understand the power of melanin. When I was a model, the fashion houses and top photographers would prefer the deep melanated girls like the beauties from Somalia and Kenya. I am a brown girl, but more like medium brown. I would lay out in the sun to deepen my color. I felt I had to compete. They would explain how their skin looks good in everything — pictures, colors etc. And it is true. Darker skin became my preference because of that. On top of that, in my studies as a 20 something yr old trying to figure out my life, I learned that melanin gives African people superior genetic qualities — physical, mental and spiritual. Also, Melanin is being purchased now and is in high demand. African people are walking around with millions of dollars worth of melanin in their skin. I cannot wrap my head around someone wanting to bleach away the beauty and power that melanin gives to African people. It’s pure brainwashing and it’s sad.
